Piraeus


Piraeus is in Attica, Greece. It is the third largest urban center in Greece. Piraeus is the largest passenger port in Europe and the third largest in the world.

Piraeus’ history dates back to Ancient Greece. The city was largely developed in the early 5th century BC, when it served as the port city of classical Athens and was transformed into a harbor. In the modern era, Piraeus is a big city, full of life and an integral part of Athens. It has the biggest harbor in the country and has all the typical characteristics of a huge marine and commercial-industrial center.

Piraeus has many archaeological sites. Parts of the Themistoclean Walls and the Eetioneia Gate are still standing today. Piraeus is also home to numerous museums.
