Pompeii

Pompeii is an ancient Roman city that was buried in 79AD during the largest eruption of Vesuvius. It was well preserved by lava for almost 19 centuries. This city gives us a vivid insight into the Roman world of the days of Jesus and Paul. It was a thriving commercial town and resort playground for the rich. The streets of Pompeii are narrow, and chariot ruts in the cobblestone are visible. A museum in Pompeii houses various artifacts found on the site.
