Haifa

Haifa is the largest city in northern Israel and the third largest city in the country. It has a mixed population of Arabs and Jews. Haifa was built on the slopes of Mount Carmel and its history dates back to biblical times.

Today the city is a major seaport located on the Mediterranean coast. It is about 56 miles north of Tel Aviv and is the major regional center for the area.

The population of Haifa today is about 82% Jewish, 4% Muslin and 14% Christian. The relatively large Christian population of Haifa is a combination of Arab Christians and Christian immigrants from the former Soviet Union.
