Melk


Melk is a city in Austria. Melk is best known as the site of the massive baroque Benedictine monastery named Stift Melk. It is one of the most famous monastic sites. The original abbey was founded in 1089 and a school was established in the 12th century. The impressive Baroque abbey was built in the 1700’s. The abbey is known for its impressive library with countless medieval manuscripts. Today, the school remains at the abbey and caters to nearly 900 students.
