KING DAVID'S CITADEL

Because it stood at the place most difficult to defend, each ruler of Jerusalem since the second century B.C. built a strong fortress on the site of what is now known as King David's Citadel. From Herod the Great to the Romans, the Crusaders and the Turks, the British, the Arabs and the Israelis... all have used this spot to fortify their security. Today, it has become a cultural museum, receiving thousands of visitors each year.
